lightning

By Charlotte Thompson

the tree stood

in the yard

for years

branches twisting towards sun

black spot the only blemish

on the trunk.

years pass,

tendrils of bark grow,

slowly hiding and savoring the scar.

the casual passerby,

oblivious to the

damage

buried underneath.
